From science to application.
The HairSense team combines experience in fiber science, microscopy, AI-assisted image analysis, software development and technology transfer. Together with scientific support, this becomes an application-oriented testing workflow for premium natural fibers.
“After many years in fiber and hair analytics, I am pleased to see how HairSense advances established testing methods with modern imaging, AI and innovative approaches.”

The roots go back to more than 70 years of wool and fiber research: HairSense originates from the environment of DWI – Leibniz Institute for Interactive Materials, founded in 1952 as the German Wool Research Institute.
This materials- and fiber-focused research provides the scientific background for transfer into application.

For a long time, Aachen was shaped by cloth production, wool processing and materials-related industry. Around 1900, Aachen’s cloth industry reached its peak, with about 80 cloth factories and more than 10,000 people working in this environment.
HairSense builds on this heritage and translates it into digital fiber analytics. The focus is no longer classical cloth production, but objective material testing, AI-assisted fiber analysis and more robust quality decisions.
